like goosebumps on oozing skin
i taste her
it's sweet as memories
bitter as wood chips
and the crawling
it never stops crawling
but there's nothing else to drink

the altar is made of wetstone
cutting prayer in half, congregation in fourths
its edges are ridges
its outlines are shadows
its curves are spirals
its grays are ashen
its bumps are bruises
its belly is bloodied
its scripts are weighted
its songs are strains
its preachers are judges

on the outer edge looking
meters and miles and minutes down
falling, screaming, but lack of sound
from no ears on their splintered heads
with no eyes on their blank faces

Xyx has permanent stubble now. He sports moisturized calluses, jewelry more expensive than dowry, and eyes clearer with age.
His latest will has your name in it.
It's with sunset ripping through his silk shirt that you see Xyx is frayed at the edges on purpose.

maybe this dream should be bitten--crushed like an unripe apple. i am too selfish to let myself taste bitter worms. i will kill it and let the blood of stars drip down my chin. you will not row my boat across even calm waters

Every violent thump of the bass was a heartbeat overbearing her own, ready to splatter her chest to mimic red strobe lights, breathing at the mercy of a whimsical DJ.

we filled his bed with seeds
we wheeled him out to his favorite lake
and laughed bout may from '98
back home we watched the super bowl
