The date marks the end of the hunting season in Spain. 100s of Galgos are abandoned by the Galgueros (hunters)
This charity has done wonders in rehabilitating and rehoming them in UK, US, Europe. #DiaDelGalgo

Lucy Like-a-Charm, a black Greyhound, has gained her angel wings, she wears a wide open smile, facing front, ears perked, relaxed, spread side to side. Around Lucy flying numerous bright goldfish against blue skies, white fluffy clouds and a bed of happy pink poppies swaying in the breeze.
For Dia del Galgo 1 Feb. A little late, I was too sad on that day. In honour of the beautiful, gentle Galgos in Spain who are subject to such horrific brutality in the name of “tradition”. Our wish for all Galgos & also Greyhounds. No more cruelty, just being loved as they deserve.

My first ex-racing greyhound was Hunter. He joined us after his career ended, but filled our lives with joy and love. Feb. 1 is the international Dia Del Galgo to raise awareness of the plight of hunting dogs in Spain & Portugal after the hunting season ends. They all deserve a family. #diadelgalgo

It's #diadelgalgo World Galgo Day. It coincides with the end of the hunting season in Spain where dogs are discarded in order to weed out the “useless ones” and breed more to get a champion. Official numbers say 50,000 but unofficial numbers are closer to 100,000 a year.
