You know its a good session when you wake to numerous notifications from your players, each one a new meme! Honestly nothing better than a D&D session that just HITS THAT SPOT!

I never plan beyond the first story arc of my campaigns until players lock down their backstories. Only then do I plan long term, every plot point and NPC? From their backstory.

So, when a character transports to another place or plane, they have to roll dice to see if the go to the right place, or end up in somewhere completely wrong

Could you roll a dice for when a soul is transported back to the mortal plane by a revival spell?

Gearing up for the session today! It's the first in a few months, and the crew of adventurers left off... At the start of a dungeon, having just hit level 3.

Hopefully, none of them will die. ๐Ÿ˜…

Gotta get back into my writing flow today. I'm taking these players to WAR in a cultists' nest, this weekend.

QUICK... the party must make a Dexterity saving throw! Rolling... and ooof... all failed....

So I have a villain plummeting at the top of a round. Tell me why all the calculations for falling speed in #dnd don't take into account air drag & friction?! I know it's fantasy but air exists!

One of my least favourite things to do is look for character art on pinterest. Never any artists mentions, so much stolen art work, or its AI slop. Can't even find landscape inspo without being flooded with immeasurable amounts of #AI. Its gross. I hate it. Fuck you Pinterest.

Converting an older ttrpg module to a modern system and there is a name spelling that ends with โ€œggerโ€. Going to go ahead change that name even if the start if the name seems fine. #trrpg #dmthings

Whelp, today's the day when my D&D group got to say the immortal words, "but we did solve your puzzle, with magic".
The magic in question, of course, being the disintegration spell.

When I built her as a player character, I
didn't elaborate beyond telling the DM
that the spirit of her dead mom is
haunting her; that she died in a hit
orchestrated by the thieves guild she
abandoned for True Love. Think The
Bride from Kill Bill. I wanted a happy
well adjusted Rogue with the potential
to turn grimdark. So an inverse of the
trope

Nothing really panned out in that
campaign because that DM was very
combat focused. Didn't encourage RP
at all.

Which is a lesson learned in making
sure you have a session zero so your
players understand what kind of
campaign you're going to run. But I
digress

So now I'm a DM with this NPC, and
building out what's actually going on
with her story. l'm trying to keep it
focused on the things the players can
solve. There's four murderers, three in
each major city on The Sword Coast
and one pirate

They've been hinting to me that this
task is a little overwhelming for them
They don't know how to attack the
pirate, they don't know how to assault
thieves guilds.. and now they
potentialy have a reward that gives
them a Wish from a side quest. And
some of the party's immediate thought
was "let's wish the ghost away!"

For a lot of reasons way too in the
weeds to explain here, If you wish the
ghost away, you will drag the Halfling's
soul along with it. They're bound
together by strong magic. Both get to
go on to the afterlife, but the party has
to endure watching the Halfling's body
starve to death without a soul inside
Feels bad, when really all they're doing
is trying to help her. (And sacrificing a
great reward to do it.)

I'm a big fan of giving my players as
much warning as I can that an action
might not have the reaction or
consequences that they expect. I think
that makes a better story, and I also
think it's only fair to allow the players
to adjust their choices.

So I had the Halfling God of Death
show up to the party on their way to
do the side quest, and explain the
metaphysical aspects of what's going
on with the Halfling. Plus how they
might sever the bond without killing
the thieves. It involves traveling to
another plane undergoing an equally
dangerous mission,.

Part of the party is on board with that
but the Bard isn't. He thinks that
tackling the thieves guilds is
dangerous, but ultimately the better
option than extraplanar travel in a
deadly mission. He has not been shy
expressing how deadly all these
options are to the Halfling sidekick

Finishing a map for your dnd session is such a cool feeling!!! It is quite the work to build it from scratch - but also super rewarding <3

Cross your fingers, that my players will like it ๐Ÿ‘€

New setting is coming along decently, ten playable races now with one having subtypes for the four elements I just need to figure out proper feats for them all without any of them being too strong in comparison.

Who is more terrifying to face? A boss who is supremely confident and smug? Or a boss on the verge of a mental breakdown?

Sure, the former probably planned ahead for your every move, but the latter is capable of anything if they've got nothing else to lose.

The image shows a screenshot from the Dungeons & Dragons subreddit with a post asking users to share their "worst" advice for D&D. The top comment humorously suggests overthinking every session by convincing yourself that it went terribly, scrutinizing every detail, and expecting players to quitโ€”only to be surprised when they return. Replies include one user empathizing with "Oof, I feel this," while another amusingly adds, "I'm in this picture and I donโ€™t like it. How do I get out, I failed all my sanity checks."

This captures the humorous self-criticism that Dungeon Masters often feel, as well as the communityโ€™s lighthearted approach to D&D anxieties.

RAWR. I'm going to have to write this adventure, that isn't even remotely possible for another three game sessions, just to get it out of my head so I can focus on tomorrow's game. My brain keeps chewing on it over and over since Tuesday. #dndcampaign #dmthings
