Onto the final hill #drinkthegradient we are heading up the steeper climb (8.6%) of the Puerto de Navacerrada with the added Bola Del Mundo. Being matched with Gouden Carolous Classic at 8.5%. #bskybeer
#drinkthegradient
On Hill 4 #drinkthegradient sipping a classic Kernel Export Stout - London 1890 at 7.4% alongside the first climb up the 7.5% Puerto de Navacerrada #bskybeer
Hill 3 #drinkthegradient I’m having a ‘Sticky Bottle’ moment finding myself outside the 0.2 abv margin. I’m drinking a LSBB’25 #2 west Coast IPA from Verdant/Stoup (Seattle) /Bale Breaker (Washington State) breweries at 7% on the 7.3 Alto del León. Off to see the Commissaire. #bskybeer
Hill 2 #drinkthegradient Im supping a lovely Sindris Forge, part of Brew Yorks Nine Realms series. This one is in collaboration with Salama Brewery from Finland and is described as a 5.6% Mountain IPA . Matched with the Puerto de La Paradilla 5.7 #bskybeer
Hola. So here we are again for #DrinktheGradient - the Vuelta edition. Starting sensibly with a 4.1 % gradient Alto de La Escondida matched with a not sensible (but very good) Vault City Cherry Cola Float 4.3%abv #bskybeer
#drinkthegradient #TDF2025
MOUNTAIN: La Plagne – Hors Catégorie (19.1 km at 7.2%)
BEER: Sierra Nevada - Torpedo Extra IPA 7.2%
My god, if anyone loves a classic West coast IPA like I do, you need to try this! Biscuity malts, resinous pine hops, super bitter finish, all perfectly balanced. Superb!
Beer 5: Track Sifting at 7.2% abv matched to La Plagne Ave gradient 7.2%.
Best beer so far, and that says something. Fresh, juicy, bitter, refreshing, quaffable, it has everything.

So onto our final peak La Plange 7.2% which I’m enjoying with another Belgian Classic Westmalle Dubbel 7.0% #drinkthegradient #bskybeer
#drinkthegradient #TDF2025
MOUNTAIN: Cormet de Roselend – Category 2 (5.9 km at 6.3%)
BEER: Orval 6.2%
Probably my desert island beer. There's simply nothing better.
For the 4th (2nd) Hill, Cormet de Roselend 6.3%, I chose a Verdant ‘Gardens of Narrative’ at 6.5%, partly because I wanted an IPA at this point but also its great print bird artwork. #drinkthegradient #bskybeer
#drinkthegradient #TDF2025
The mountain is Col du Pré – Hors Catégorie (12.6 km at 7.7%)
Beer is Brew York - Brownie Pints 7.5%
A chocolate brownie imperial milk stout, but it's not too heavy or sweet. Chocolate, coffee, malt, but with a hint of hop bitterness to balance it - very drinkable.
Beer 3: Trappistes Rochefort 6 Ave abv 7.5% matched to the Col du Pre ave gradient 7.7%.
Delicious bread and brown sugar combination. Beautiful beer.

So our first proper hill and it’s a difficult one, Col du Pré (12,6 km à 7,7%) , HC in classification for riders but potentially difficult for us as it’s short. So im quickly sipping a classic Rochefort 6 at 7.5% #drinkthegradient #bskybeer
Next up would have been the Col des Saisies (6.4%) which would have matched perfectly with this Full Circle West Coast looper 6.4. But we are just starting on the flat so gradient is a just a little bit out #drinkthegradient #bskybeer
#drinkthegradient
Second beer, Saison Dupont Dry Hop 6.5%
Lovely bready, funky Belgian classic, bit with added hops. It's bloody lovely!
We're back in the game, cows avoided 😂
#drinkthegradient
Beer 2: Full Circle West Coast Looper at 6.4% abv to match (the phantom and diseased cow ridden) Col des Saisies Ave gradient 6.4%.
A West Coast IPA from a local brewery. Lovely bitterness and juicy pithiness.
#drinkthegradient
#Bskybeer
Beer 1: Pilot Rose Sour abv 5.0% matched with (the now phantom) Cote d’Hery-sur-Ugine Ave gradient 5.1%.
A lovely red and white grape blush from Leith. Very refreshing with just the right amount of sharpness to start the day.

#Bskybeer
#drinkthegradient
Bad News Beer Co - Buffering Cold IPA 5.0%
A lovely pithy citrus bitterness, from a Croatian brewery. Currently "drinking the wickets" as Root makes his half century.
Due to Cow Issues the first 2 hills of #drinkthegradient are missing today so we’ve began virtual whilst watching test match. As a starter I’m beginning with dessert. Vault City poire belle Helene 5.0% abv which was matched to the missing Côte d'Héry-sur-Ugine 5.1% gradient #bskybeer #justnotcricket

Cows delayed play, but we're continuing with #drinkthegradient regardless 🍺
Beery confirmation…

Profile of Stage 19 of the Tour de France 2025
Tomorrow sees me tackle what I believe to be my 17th #drinkthegradient. Being no cyclist I thought it would be my way of “joining in” with the Tour de France. Pick a stage at the TDF, this year tomorrow’s Stage 19 into La Plagne, and look at the average gradient of the climbs.

Well, #TDF25 starts tomorrow but it’s bittersweet as it’s the last time on free-to-air TV with the wonderful commentary of @nedboulting.bsky.social & David Millar
Sad times, 40 years of watching & this will be my last 😢
Still, I’ve #DrinkTheGradient to look forward to with @mjpo007.bsky.social
