The government is trying to rush the Bill through without proper consultation and democratic scrutiny. Any changes must include disabled people at its heart, not just those in receipt of PIP. The principle must always be #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs.

Meg Hillier mini-profile "Privately educated at Portsmouth High School. Former PPS to Ruth Kelly (now Chair of water industry lobbyist Water UK). Hillier made various arguments against public ownership of water in a House of Commons debate in March 2025, complaining that it is too costly “We have to see this issue in the context of all the money that needs to be spent”, that we must not criticise the shareholders who profit from water because they contain pensions funds and “ordinary hard-working people” (a myth busted by Brett Christophers); she stated “nationalisation sounds appealing to many, but there is a cost—and it is not a hidden cost: to those who bought shares in good faith, to those pension funds that are investing, and in the upheaval of turning around these companies.” Hillier did not vote against the cruel Tory welfare austerity cuts in 2015 that were later linked to 330,000 excess deaths. She did not sign May 2024 letter calling on the government to uphold the ICC arrest warrants for war criminals Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant. She abstained on the CHIS (Covert Human Intelligence Sources) Criminal Conduct bill (2020) even though it gave undercover police impunity to rape, murder and torture without prosecution. Hillier did not vote in favour of a ceasefire in Gaza on November 15th 2023 – despite the death toll having reached almost 15,000 and over 100 UN relief workers having been killed by Israeli forces; the motion failed; there were 56 Labour MPs who did defy the whip and voted in favour. Meg Hillier supported Yvette Cooper for the leadership of the Labour party in 2015 and Angela Eagle during the challenge to Corbyn’s leadership in 2016; when Eage dropped out she backed pharma lobbyist Owen Smith. Hillier was caught out .. When I saw it was the highly compromised Meg Hillier leading the rebellion, I did wonder if the whole thing was piece of theatre to manage the rebellion and steer it off course.
