It’s another strange time here in Brooklyn. The temperature dips and dives like a bird in flight, sultry and spring-like one moment, cold and damp the next; warm rain one evening, sleet and snow the next. A morning walk finds the rest of the city vanished in a thick fog, not even the ghosts of buildings visible through the milky haze. It’s here in that haze where I find myself lingering... Here’s some more (US) morning mellow.

I am temporarily sidelined from my walks due to a minor injury, so I’m taking this opportunity to get an early start. I’ve actually been hesitating on this pick for quite some time, for as much as I love the track, part of me has felt that it’s a tad too creepy (and energetic?) for the proceedings. But today the grey light outside holds a tinge of menace as I sit here in the semi-dark and that seems a perfect setting for this gem. Something about the mood invites this extended, ghostly intro that then blossoms into a vast landscape of thunderous rhythm. And whilst those staccato patterns may seem frantic, the stately, almost subterranean bassline holds steady, grounding the tune and keeping it from flying off into space. So with perhaps an odd, but definitely “of the moment” bit of musical mastery, here’s some more (US) morning mellow. FYI, my ears are always open for new, chill sounds.
