I hate the idea that you need some sort of big legitimizing impetus to break up with someone. Literally just "I'm not particularly feeling it anymore IDK why". Is a valid reason
If you don't want to be in the relationship anymore then you should break up with them. You shouldn't have to have a specific substantial why. You don't owe them that.
Because the thing is. You should want to only be in a relationship with someone who wants to be in a relationship with you. Therefor if they no longer want to be in a relationship witb you. You should want them to communicate that so you aren't with someone who doesn't want to be with you. If you want someone to stick around who doesn't want to... Something is wrong with you.
Don't stick around because you feel like you need some sort of story to explain why you left before you can leave. Just go.
"Breaking up over _________ is stupid and shallow"
There is no such thing as a bad reason to break up with someone. If you want to break up you want to break up. Period. Your feelings and consent are the only thing that matters.
