Meaningful operations can be executed on #eComp files because of the #evolution-guided compression. E.g., the number of #phylogenetically informative sites in an MSA can be determined ~5x faster🏃💨 than in their native #file format
#eComp outperformed gzip 100% of the time🤯 across nearly 500 MSAs used for testing (see image). eComp had a mean compression ratio (original file size / compressed size) of 12.07. In other words, eComp would compress 3TBs of MSAs down to ~0.25 TBs!
