#eVED for April 2028 so that electric vehicle drivers in the UK pay per mile for their travel. Interesting new #UKTax to cover the £12 billion loss of fuel tax to the exchequer by people using electric vehicles.

If the mileage part of eVED has to be paid upfront, and 'sticks' to the vehicle, might we see manufacturers offering, eg, "10,000 miles tax paid" deals on new EVs?

I've seen chat on the MGev forum that suggests it'll be validated at MOT time. That's OK for 3+ yr old EVs
Here's a thought: This is going to be collected by Swansea, as we tax our cars. The Police have access to this data, will they then get info about eVED discrepancies?

Hmmm, 3p/mile tax for my EV from 2028 - which I'll have to pay up-front based on estimating my future annual mileage. Yep. That's going to work well. Not. Annual reconciliations with the Government over what could be a few tens of pounds. Yep. Bound to work.
