a night to remember FallenCiatokins Summary: Lady Edelgard sat beside her, a wine glass in her hand, arm wrapped around Dorothea’s shoulder. A silky red nightgown draped across her body. Weariness creased across her brow. “I’m exhausted. I didn’t think that the negotiations would take that long. I never imagined that the conversation would be quite so hung up on that one particular topic.” Edelgard let out a long sigh. Hubert knew that the Ochs family would insist on rebuilding their territory once the war was over, at any expense, but what Hubert hadn’t realized was how much the eastern lords would oppose said rebuild. He grew impatient for the day that they could be rid of all these egotists for good. Her Majesty was very patient with the lords who had allied with her, but Hubert thought she was perhaps too patient. It had been seven years since the conclusion of the war, and three years since he had returned from his odious task of eliminating Thales and his followers. And yet, these circular arguments continued without end. As a married throuple, Edelgard, Hubert, and Dorothea enjoy a night together.

They were not perfect people. She found them terrifyingly efficient, unrelenting in their goals and visions, and a bit out of touch despite their own misgiving about the aristocracy. But… she could never doubt their dedication to their cause. And their devotion to her. She looked over at Edie, who was gazing into the distance. Dorothea responded by brushing her fingers through Edie’s hair. Her beautiful silver hair was one of the things that made her striking. “What are you thinking about, beautiful?” “Oh, you know. How to make our plans come to reality, despite the whining of insufferable nobles.” She let out a laugh. “You always make fun of me for not letting work go, but it’s true. I am just hopelessly committed.” Dorothea smirked at her. “Oh, Edie. I know how you are. I knew it when I married you,” she said with a loving chuckle. She beckoned Hubie over, and also touched him gently on the shoulder. The man gave her a shy smile, and moved closer to the two women. “Thank you both for working so hard on behalf of the common people. Thank you for caring about us.”

Edelgard had not realized just how much she missed Dorothea until she came back. It wasn’t long after that Edelgard and Dorothea went on their first date. Dorothea’s warm smile, her beautiful disposition, and of course her stunning beauty had captivated Edelgard, and it wasn’t long until Edelgard had fallen deeply in love. At first, she had felt shame because she didn’t believe she deserved love, but Dorothea had changed her mind. The idea that she could have the love of two different people had never occurred to her until Dorothea had casually suggested it out of the blue. She turned to her left and looked at Hubert. He had come back victorious from defeating Thales, a silent war that only a select few had ever known had happened. It had been a great burden off her shoulders to know that Thales was gone and no longer sabotaging her every move as she strove to make the Empire a better place. Since Thales’s death, Hubert had found a niche as a bureaucrat, running the Imperial Household with precision. He had shown himself to be a bit intolerant and sometimes rude to diplomats, so a background job which utilized his organization skills rather than his smart mouth. His mouth could be also used for other things, Edelgard thought as she kissed him.

If it was me…” Dorothea waved her hand in the air dismissively, before taking another sip of her wine. “If it was me, I’d eliminate them all,” Hubert said, chuckling. “I thought you said your assassination days were behind you, Hubie,” Dorothea smiled, her green eyes twinkling as she glanced in his direction. Hubert rolled his eyes. “You’re right. The, ah, Emperor Consort” -- the title still sounded funny in his ears, even after their wedding -- “should not say such things, I suppose.”
