In 1913 on #ThisDayInHistory, textile workers in #Rochester, NY, went on #strike for an #EightHourDay, a wage increase, and #union recognition. #IdaBreiman was shot dead by the owner of a tailor shop she was picketing. The strike ended in April with only union recognition gained.
The #LimaGeneralStrike began on #ThisDayInHistory in 1919, when thousands of workers walked out demanding the #EightHourDay. They were joined by university students, and persisted despite #torture used against #anarchist #union organizers. The government gave in after three days.
