The Garreg-du viaduct crosses the reservoir to the Nantgwyllt church. The reservoir was constructed between 1893 and 1906 to provide water to Birmingham, 75 miles away. The old church was lost when the reservoir was constructed. The new church was sited to achieve asthetic impact aligning with viaduct.

Garreg Ddu dam. Interesting one because the dam is underwater at this level and meant to control water levels in times of drought. So at the moment ot looks like a bridge but the arch legs are very long to the dam below.

Spectacular day yesterday - no pics! Tremendous #cricket action in #Brecon then long haul up to N #Wales. Accident by #Rhayader so diverted the length of the #ElanValley. WOW!! Incredible, vast, deeply rural area comes into view. A worldie of a drive.
