Fae's VTuber model next to the cover of Neon Gods by Katee Robert
Is this my first entry into spicy booktok? I think the world of Dark Olympus is neat, it's dark and gritty. It's got all the elements of a noir movie in a more modern setting, with an Olympic bronze sheen over it. I'm a sucker for Hades/Persephone adaptations, and Neon Gods is an appropriately melodramatic interpretation of their relationship. And it's undeniably hot. I can't speak to its "level" of spice, but it's effective and I love their dynamic as a whole. 4/5
Fae's VTuber model next to the cover of Electric Idol by Katee Robert
I took an extended gap between the first and second book in this series, but after reading Electric Idol it propelled me through the next four books in rapid succession. One of the more interesting things about this series is the relationship dynamics as it pertains to its individual characters. And while I think the "Yes you're a monster but you're MY monster" theme is a bit repetitive in regards to Dimitriou siblings here it feels a bit sweeter. I love how smart Psyche is, I love the body positivity, and I love how real her emotions and fears are. And Eros is my autistic-coded king. I never thought I would feel kinship with a hitman but here we are. He's just doin his best here, it's not his fault he's emotionally repressed and can't read the room. And the mirrors? Yes. 4/5
I've gotten really into the #DarkOlympus books this year. If you like modern retellings of #greekmythology with bit of #romance and danger, this might be the series for you! Each entry feels a little noir to me with just a bit of spice. #bookreviews #neongods #electicidol #hades #persephone
