Davis is senior staff attorney for the Nonhuman Rights Project, founded 30 years ago to change the legal status of animals from “things” to “persons,” with clients including chimpanzees, cetaceans and elephants.

Davis is the Nonhuman Rights Project’s lead lawyer for litigation Hawai’i, Michigan, and soon Pennsylvania. His talk will explain how “the Great Writ of Habeas Corpus”—which protects people against unjust detention—can also secure freedom and dignity for nonhuman animals.
