I'm putting together my thoughts on the process for Exalted 3e - keeping in mind I'm not trying to make a hyper optimized beast but a functional and fully fleshed character you could use out the box in your game.

Having finished up the Charm purchases for the Exalted build, I built our scavenger lord craftswoman to focus on defense out the gate, with choices for protection and noticing first, which befits a careful and methodical personality, and then working on crafting.

Since it's Friday night and I'm in love with making ttrpg characters, we're going back to work on the next part - Merits.
These are actually pretty straightforward! Physical Merits describe some extra minor talents, social ones describe your place in the world, etc.

The one thing to keep in mind is that we're over complicating things to get more bang for our buck BUT you'll see why I've argued to remove BP completely and replace it with flat XP buy.

So I held off at the time but we're into what I'm going to have to deal with as "fiddly bits" or Abilities. Here's where dicking around with the character creation math pays your bills (ekes out a little more at creation).

In a lot of cases, I could rush through this because if you're deeply familiar with Exalted, or even with WoD generally, it's not too tough to just give you the list of abilities I'll get discounts on. But if not, it's a maze!

So there are a lot of books out for this stuff now, Exalted 3e, I backed it when it was released. I remember it wasn't quite what I hoped for but it has its own clear virtues as a system. Initially I read through the whole thing. We're going to do this EXTENSIVE STYLE.

My only complaint about Abyssals is that I don't see the "romance of the grave" that the core book suggests. It gets the grim aspects amazingly well, but I don't feel empowered to play a celebrant if death or someone who can see and show the beauty of life in a landscape of death.

I am pretty happy with the social mechanics in Vanguard but the real challenge remains the spells and boons 🤔
