So hard to read; both for Madagascar, a country I came to know well in the 1990s, & for Australia just as politicians battle furiously over any potential improvement to nature protection laws.

Step 1: find out who’s living there *before* you bust up its habitat!
Eg 5 threatened burrowing crayfish burrow only in small areas of land in #Tasmania, often vulnerable to compaction & destruction eg by cattle & housebuilding

Forest loss rates in designated 'Swift Parrot Important Breeding Areas' doubled since forestry policy change in 2014.
Swift parrots were listed as Critically Endangered in 2015.

And now *412* species have been identified!! - with the help of 118 people contributing from around the world.
That's from 883 records so far uploaded to iNaturalist, gathered during our 30-hour #ExtinctionMatters BioBlitz, across the 184 ha of Kelcey Tier Greenbelt in Tasmania, Australia.
