Ancient Channels are a supergroup of sorts, consisting of members from the myriad of talented bands operating in Meanjin/Brisbane( including Terra Pines, Apparitions, and Deafcult), many of whom have been enthusiastically covered by us here at the antipodean outpost of Backseat Mafia. Their new single 'Chimera' is a gloriously dense wall of shimmering sounds that quivers with an Antarctic intensity as the guitar creates shards of sound, the vocals distant and cold and delivered in a dream-like fugue. The result is something mysterious and ethereal with the feeling of a ritual or ceremony, building up to a chaotic thunder.

Album Review: Sliver Fleet Ships set sail into the darkness with their atmospheric debut album ‘Before Never, After Forever’. Nipaluna/Hobart band Silver Fleet Ships are signed to the tremendous Meanjin/Brisbane label False Peaks Records, and this is a sure guarantee of the quality you can except in their debut album 'Before Never, After Forever'. It's an album which bleeds atmosphere from every pore: statuesque and gilded with an Antarctic chill exacerbated by the sharp expressive guitar riffs that thread their way through every track. Opening track 'Before Never' is a smooth and floating entry that is delivered over a rambling piano: there is something of the classic 'Nilsson Sings Newman' album in the balladry and gentleness.

Track: Lutruwita/Tasmanian band Silver Fleet Ships ‘Do Nothin” in their own elegant, haunting way, ahead of debut album release. Third single from the Nipaluna/Hobart band Silver Fleet Ships, signed to the tremendous Meanjin/Brisbane label False Peaks Records, and things are just getting exponentially better. 'Do Nothin'' continues the post punk sparseness filled with atmosphere and a stately grace that typify this band. The track draws in elements of the deep southern Antarctic chill, coupled with melodies and delivery that are like a comforting burning fire in the hearth. A motorik beat introduces the track creating a driving thrum throughout, while the vocals are cold and distant, but slowly and surely the other instruments seep up through the floorboards with a throbbing bass and soothing synth bedrock with a hint of rippling guitars.

Premiere: ‘Surprised’ – Silver Fleet Ships announce signing to False Peak Records, debut album ‘Before Never, After Forever’ and orchestral new single. Joining fellow Tasmanians follow in signing to Meanjin/Brisbane's marvellous False Peaks Records, we are honoured to premiere the new single 'Surprised' from Nipaluna/Hobart band Silver Fleet Ships, ahead of their debut album 'Before Never, After Forever' which is set for release in October 2025. Silver Fleet Ships is led by Spiro Noutsatos, who has lent his engineering skills to releases from Dvrkworld, Legal Noise, Nice House, and Slaughterhaus Surf Cult, and has been a former member of the latter as well as Teens, and is a live member of follow.
