She leans in, and says, "Since we've established that you're dumb, I'll give you this information for free." She smiles, showing him her sharp teeth again. "I know what I am capable of much better than you do. Your kind are used to chivalry; pretty words and gestures that mean nothing in the grand scheme of things." Her eyes drop, briefly, to the remnants of the eagle. "Actions are much more valuable." Alex winces, and says, "I only meant that I didn't want you to suffer for my sake." Farah snaps her teeth together, lets out a low hiss. "More pretty words. If you meant it you'd have crawled along the floor and clung to my boot like a child, begging me not to go." He can't help himself when he says, "I imagine it's very easy to make men crawl for you." She blinks, startled by the joke, and rears back to settle on her haunches. Alex tenses, afraid that he's only made her angry with him again, but then a moment later she laughs. It's a rough, low sound, more like a huffing beast than a human laugh, but it softens her face, makes her eyes crinkle at the corners, reveals the dimples in her cheeks. It is such a raw, joyful sound, and Alex finds himself chuckling along with her simply because seeing her smile makes his chest feel loose and light and warm.
