Stardew Valley

I got this during a rough patch in life, the calmness felt like the perfect antidote to everything going on. It’s still a game I love to play to de-stress. It’s beautiful visually, sonically and narratively.

Crazy Taxi (PS2)

I’m not huge on arcade games but throw in some Bad Religion songs and I’m there. This was the first game I had on PS2 and I put so much time into it just for the music! It also turned out it’s really, really fun.

Pokémon HG/SS (DS)

I wouldn’t be a 90’s kid without a Pokemon game and this is the one for me. It took everything that made the originals great and built on it, the graphical upgrade and additions from Crystal makes these the definitive ones for me.

Another amazing soundtrack, great sounding samples too. Almost as enjoyable as this game is working out all the music references in the soundtrack. This game is amazing and deserved to do much better when it was released.

This is when Castlevania got good for me, the gameplay is polished and responsive, the graphics show how neglected the PS1 was as a 2D powerhouse and it’s so much fun.

Chrono Trigger (SNES)

Why are time travel mechanics so unexplored in gaming? It’s such a cool idea. Visually this game is a tribute to what the SNES is capable of, it is absolutely beautiful. And shocker, I love the soundtrack!

Doom (PC)

This game combines my loves of horror and metal. There’s no in depth story, there’s no emotional impact but there is pure action from start to finish and it’s so much fun! As far as FPSs go, I still think this is untouched.

Good soundtracks are a huge part of my love for any game and I wish this would get remade just so we could enjoy it in good quality. It does get a bit talky in places but the rest of this game is near perfect!

This is the first game I ever really got into when I was given a NES as a kid. Every bit of music in this game is top tier which was a huge reason I fell in love with it. I also love the humour and atmosphere.
