I simply adore Joey Darke. I also have to resist the urge to simply shoot her everywhere in this mask because it seems to become part of her and offer up a powerful Demi-human image that I could probably riff on forever. I want to get her into a department store in it. Or a busy street. We would terrify passersby with our casual monstrosity. In the hobbyist photography community we throw around the term "muse" an awful lot and I think it has some implications that are best left to actual passions. I like to think of my favorite models as "simpatico", a less-charged term but which sweeps us all along in the same creative river. Semantics. Potato/pototo, tomato/tamata....you say "fascist regime" and I say "ignorant grifters"....anyway.... Insta has been on a sweep through the last year of my posts, taking down almost a dozen, labeling most of them as "sexual solicitation" which I totally don't understand. My disagreement options are things like "it was a joke" or "I admit I made a mistake but you're being mean", none of which are things I care to admit to while disputing the Grand Deliberations of the AI Overlords. It's a good reminder not to support Insta but to instead spend more time in waterfalls with my camera in hand. Preferably chasing someone like Joey. I'm as surprised as anyone to realize that I'm nearly twice the age of my usually-30-something models. No offense to other ages but I've found that VERY young models are (as I was at that age) flaky and unformed. I'd love to shoot with older models but those in my age group usually have LIVES and most of the chasing is with a calendar in hand. I have a friend who is stunningly wild at age 60 and though we SAY we're going to shoot it seems she's always on the go and it just hasnt' happened yet. At 30-ish, the looming horrors of life haven't quite built the box of conformity and time still seems limitless.
