Series: SMG4 First Appearance (As a Melon): Mario Alone (2019) First Appearance (With a Face and Voice): Mario's Mask of Madness (2020) A fair distance from Princess Peach's Castle, there were some showgrounds where all manner of plays and movies were made, and like the rest of the kingdom, it attracts a lot of weirdness. One day, as the Mario Brothers were pursuing a long-eared thief who had pilfered some masks from the Princess' treasury, one mask of unknown origin slipped and fell onto a watermelon left on the showgrounds, giving it a new form, that of a powerful but lethargic and easygoing girl named Melony. It didn't take much for her to fit into the odd world around her, but as her dark powers and memories of a distant world became known to her, she sought ways to train and control this power. This drew the relaxed melon towards quite a few conflicts, eventually bringing her to Sora's aid in a far away kingdom that seemed a tad familiar to her. Having heard a bit about Sora from her friends back home, she figured helping him fight the forces of evil threatening their worlds would be the perfect way to channel her powers. And it'd make for some fun manga to draw later.

(In a safe spot in the sandstorm-covered Gerudo Desert, Sora and Melony look down at the narcoleptic watermelon girl Sora just summoned) Sora: See? I can still do magic! Riju: Does that include sleeping spells? (Tries to wake up Melony) Excuse me, are you comfortable down there? Melony: (Yawns) I'm comfy anywhere. (Extends her hand out, accidentally lifting the one with huge blade that barely misses the two) Oops. (Raises her empty hand for Sora to shake) My name's Melony, I'm here to help. Sora: I'm Sora, this is Chieftess Riju. (Takes her hand and helps her up) You seem a bit out of it. Melony: (Rubs her eyes) Just a bit tired. Mind's kinda racing. Thinking about Zora, Gorons, Gerudos... Riju: You know about this land's people? Sora: That's weird, I pulled you from Mario's world. Melony: Maybe it's this mask? (Takes her mask off, briefly turning into a watermelon, leaving the two dumbfounded, then reverts to her humanoid form) I've been getting all sorts of memories since I got it. Sora: Sounds like you have memories that aren't your own. Melony: (Shakes her head) Whatever, I can help you. Riju: In that case, our people have been driven underground by shambling hordes of the undead. Melony: ... Sora: Melony? Melony: (Stares off, as if in a trance, before drawing her blade, here eyes flickering white) I'll keep you two safe... Riju: She seems motivated suddenly. Sora: Maybe it's those memories?
