페라리 불태운 유튜버, 결국 탈세 혐의로 기소 #WhistlinDiesel #코디디트와일러 #페라리사건 #탈세혐의 #유튜버뉴스 #데일리메일 #FerrariF8 #세금논란 #몬태나루프홀 #바이럴콘텐츠 데일리 메일에 따르면, 조회수를 위해 40만 달러(약 5억 8천만 원)짜리 페라리를 구매해 불태우는 콘텐츠를 올렸던 유튜버 코디 디트와일러(27)가 미국 테네시주에서 탈세 혐의로 기소되며 법정에서 발언 제한 명령까지 받았다. 출처=WhistlinDiesel 유튜브 채널 디트와일러는 2023년 자신의 채널 WhistlinDiesel(구독자 1,030만 명)을 위해 페라리 F8 트리뷰토를 구매했고, ‘내구성 테스트’라는 명목으로 차를 과도하게 가동하다가 차량이 전소되는 장면을 영상으로 공개했다. 문제는 차량이 몬태나 주 번호판을 달고 있었던 점인데, 몬태나는 차량 판매세가 0%라 슈퍼카 구매자들이 사용하는 대표적인 ‘세금 회피 루프홀’로 알려져 있다. 반면 테네시에서 같은 차량을 구매할 경우 세금이 약 7~10%, 즉 약 4만 달러(약 5,400만 원)가 추가된다. 현재 그는 테네시 윌리엄슨 카운티 법원에서 Class E 중범죄인 탈세 혐의로 재판을 받는 중이며, 유죄 시 최대 징역 6년과 벌금 3,000달러가 가능하다. 그의 사업체인 WHISTLINDIESEL LLC 역시 같은 혐의로 기소됐다. 최근 법정에서 디트와일러는 자신의 사건을 유튜브에서 공개적으로 언급하며 음모론을 조장하고 있다는 이유로 경고를 받았고, 검찰은 그가 팬층을 선동할 수 있다며 발언 금지 명령을 요청했다. 판사는 이를 일부만 수용해 “공개 기록을 넘어서는 정보, 배심원에게 영향을 줄 수 있는 발언, 수사 관계자를 위험에 빠뜨릴 수 있는 발언”을 금지하는 제한적 조치를 내렸다. 디트와일러는 해당 결정이 “합리적”이라면서도 자신의 표현의 자유를 침해하지 않는다고 말했다. 그는 팬들에게 검찰 관계자에게 위협을 보내지 말라고 당부하기도 했다. 논란은 이뿐만이 아니다. 그는 자신의 머그샷(체포 사진)과 기소 내용을 인쇄한 티셔츠까지 판매했는데, 이에 대해 “이미 공개된 정보일 뿐”이라며 잘못이 없다고 주장했다. 그는 앞서 “아무런 통지 없이 갑자기 체포됐다”며 억울함을 토로했고, ‘깨끗한 몬태나 타이틀’을 공개하며 자신은 법을 어기지 않았다고 반박했다. 해당 페라리는 그의 영상 세 편에 등장했으며, 마지막 영상에서는 건조한 옥수수밭을 주행하다가 차량 내부로 유입된 가연성 껍질이 불씨가 되어 차량이 전소한 장면이 화제가 됐다. 그 영상은 현재 1,600만 회 이상 조회됐다.
