Vor etwa 25 Jahren. Kino im #Augarten #Wien. Der grosse Diktator. Bei dieser Szene wurde es unangenehm und gleichzeitig berührend mucksmäusschenstill.
Der #Flakturm als massiver, stummer Zeuge im Hintergrund.
Ich war selten so berührt
Still under the impression of ‘The Blitz’ in Plymouth, I was drawn back to the Augarten in Vienna on the first day. Strange relics of the last great war mark the site of a past century almost undamaged, which nevertheless still haunts the place so terribly. On this second picture you get a more detailled impression on this mad construction out of pure concrete.

What looks like a Hollywood film set is in fact #Berlin: the northern side of #Flakturm III erected 1941-42 in Volkspark #Humboldthain towering over 1.5m tonnes of #WW2 rubble and a passing #SBahn train (the railway line prevented the French OF from blowing up the rest of the flak).

Made it to a Vienna #Flakturm - which is now an absolutely brilliant aquarium with, as a bonus, some super engaging monkeys. @kateejamieson I went for the fish but @BristowHana insisted on looking at the concrete & became oddly obsessed with a panzerfaust... @HausdesMeeres
