When you look at national 'characters' you will quickly discover that these persons have devolved from accuracy into charicature and Flanderization. When this happens it becomes more likely these creations are intentionally manipulated and strongly false.

An exaggerated character has traits which are amplified to an extreme into characterization. This process is called a Flanderization. This term comes from Ned Flanders from The Simpsons. His characterization came to represent religious extremism.
