an early sketch showing some creatures flying along togther in flocks.
an early digital painting with a bunch of grey concrete forms in the foreground, sitting among a grassy landscape with flowers, and a colourful plain off in the background. This is from where we thinking about how we'd use colour and texture and hand-drawn elements within the 3D scenes.
a very early digital drawing showing a bird and its flock flying around some rocks in a meadow of flowers.
sketches of various concrete elements - some bunkers, some pots, some troughs.
#flockfriday is here again: here are more of Richard Hogg's fantastic concept work on the game!

A ref sheet of the main Flock. From left to right: a pink toucan named Bird, an orange chicken named Roo, a blue corvid (what type of corvid? nobody knows!) named Comet, and a green bittern named Twig.
A size comparison between the Flock and their boss, Aveph, a seraph made of birds.
It’s #FlockFriday!!
On Fridays, I’ll try and post about my bird characters, either for big updates or just bits of trivia! To start, I made ref sheets. Feel free to ask questions about them!

Concept work on the lupins area of the game.
A review of concrete / built things in the game, from when we were trying to focus in on what the rules would be for these elements.
A very early digital sketch, made before any significant amount of prototyping had been done.
Sketchbook drawings, some coloured of some creatures - it's possible to see the origins of some of the creatures in the final game here.
It's #flockfriday again! Time for more of Richard Hogg's amazing concept art:
The game is currently on sale on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1472930/...
concept art of the Star-shaped plaza in the grasslands, showing a meadow in the centre. This image was my desktop wallpaper for about the second half of development.
Drawing of the plaza at the end of the bridge, showing the architcture and planting.
an early drawing of the campsite, side-on, with an NPC standing in the foreground.
some drawings of trees, some with pink foliage.
Hey it's #flockfriday again - time for more of Richard Hogg's wonderful concept art!
A bunch of coloured sketches of potential creatures from Flock - some of which made in into the final game and some which didn't. This was before we settled on the idea of grouping them into families of species.
a concept painting of the Wetlands area of the game, with water, reeds and a bunch of old towers, some of which have fallen over. There are a pair of Collared Bewls dabbling in the foreground. The water towers from the campsite are just about visible through the fog in the background.
drawings and photographic reference of some potential 'hoonzone' objects - playground elements the birds could fly around just for fun. Concrete sound mirrors and skateparks were a big inspiration for the built environment for Flock.
An early painted sketch of two birds flying along with their riders, each with long, colourful tails / flocks.
Happy #flockfriday! Here is more of Richard Hogg's concept art from Flock:
a black and white photograph of a yard full of objects: pipes and other lumps, used as reference for some of the stuff that's found lying around in the uplands.
some concept art for the bunkers, based on a draw-over of a screenshot.
a very early concept drawing, showing a number of different flocks of quite abstract creatures.
character concept art. showing treatments for upper body, legs, heads/hats, as well as some of the more finished NPCs.
Please enjoy some of Richard Hogg's amazing concept art (plus a reference photo) from FLOCK. I'll aim to do one of these every #flockfriday
