Day 14: Buddhism and Islam on the Silk Road by Johan Elverskog

Day 13: China's Muslims and Japan's Empire: Centering Islam in World War II by Kelly Hammond.
One of my favorite books of the year I read because of the stories within the book are worthy of a film.

Day 12: The Story of Layla & Majnun.
A famous Persian poem epic that is very reminiscent in Romeo and Juliet in some ways and in other ways the two stories could not be more apart. Even though the epic wasn't long, it took me a while to finish.

Day 11: The Sword and the Shield: The Revolutionary Lives of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr by Peniel E. Joseph.
Nuanced take on how both Malcolm and MLK used the sword and the shield for their movements.

Day 10: The autobiography of Malcolm X.
Nothing else really needs to be said for this one.

Day 9: Conflicted Antiquities: Egyptology, Egyptomania, Egyptian Modernity by Elliott Colla
Eye opening book for me as it made me think about what they show in museums and more importantly what they do not show.

Day 8: Rule of Experts: Egypt, Techno-Politics, Modernity by Timothy Mitchell
A book I read during grad school that stuck with me with how Mitchell connected and intertwined his topics. Also the amount of research that went into this is clear.

Day 7: Enlisting Faith: How the Military Chaplaincy shaped Religion and State in Modern America by Ronit Stahl.
A very enlightening book about a topic I never thought of before coming across this book.

Day 6: Saviors and Survivors: Darfur, Politics, and the War on Terror by Mahmood Mamdani
For someone like me who knew nothing of Darfur, its history or its politics, it was a good starting point.

Day 5: First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers by Loung Ung.
Story is about a child who survived the genocide committed by Khmer Rouge.
Before when I heard the name pol pot I didn't know anything. Now I know this story.

Day 5: Cities of Salt by Abdelrahman Munif
Another book from my undergrad days. It is about the transition of an unnamed Arab emirate from how it had apparently been functioning to a current, oil producing state, a telling and human story.

Day 4: That Smell and Notes from Prison by Sonallah Ibrahim.
A book I read when I was an undergrad, it was Composed in the wake of a 5 year prison sentence following a political prisoner as he wanders through Cairo, adrift in his native city.

Day 3: The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery by Eric Foner.
Great addition to the hundreds of books written about Lincoln.

I'm starting this very late so forgive me in advance for spamming these.
Day 1: The Other Slavery: The Uncovered Story of Indian Enslavement in America by Andrés Reséndez.
A great read for a dummy like me who knew nothing on this topic.
