Cancer research in the US is world class because of its broad base of funding − with the government pulling out, its future is uncertain Since 1971, the US has led the world in funding cancer research and developing new treatments that have driven down death rates. This may soon no longer be the case.

Cancer research can’t survive on hope alone - it needs funding, unity, & urgency.

Before COVID, the pandemic that virologists feared the most was influenza. Why? Because flu mutates much more frequently, which increases the possibility of adapting from birds to mammals. We should be as deeply concerned about H5N1 as the influenza and public health scientists.
