We use #geochemical variations in #foraminifera shells in marine #sediments in the Mahanadi basin to reconstruct ISM-forced riverine freshwater discharge into the Bay since ~22 ka as a proxy for rainfall in the core monsoon zone of India. It is consistent with other well-dated ISM records: (2/6)

Restoration of #soil #geochemical balance in #mangroves is gradual, & reforestation isn’t sufficient to address it. This study shows that the balance between Fe/OC fixed large amounts of an unstable OC component (~8% of TOC) in pristine mangroves, which is highly vulnerable to geochemical changes 🪨🌊
