Born in Shettleston in 1921, Wyllie was a self-taught artist and pioneering social sculptor. He created a number of Glasgow's quirkiest and best-loved public sculptures. His life and works are celebrated in the Wyllieum in Greenock, which opened in 2024.

A Monument to Maternity by George Wyllie on the the site of the former Rottenrow Maternity Hospital in Glasgow. It was originally created for Mayfest in 1996, and was permanently installed at its current site in 2004.

The Running Clock by George Wyllie outside the Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow. Created in 1999, it was designed to chime once a day at 8pm, which its creator felt was the perfect time to meet.
