Always wash your hands with soap and water after using the bathroom. Some people have the mentality of "well I didn't pee or poop on my hands so why bother?" but the thing about microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses is that we can't see them, so you can never actually know if you actually got e coli or other pathogens related to human waste on your hands during your time in the bathroom. Or, even if the pathogen isn't related to human waste, such as you might have gotten viruses or bacteria that can cause illness on your hand before you went to the bathroom, washing your hands prevents it from spreading to yourself and others. Often when we go to the bathroom that is the only time we're by a sink with soap and water, so the most convenient time to be washing our hands throughout the day. Washing your hands throughout the day prevents the spread of illnesses. And preventing the spread of illnesses to others is compassion and consideration. You never know who's immunocompromised, or lives with someone who is immunocompromised. Or even for people who aren't immunocompromised, being sick is awful and nobody likes it.

And if you’re going to the trouble of washing your hands to prevent norovirus and influenza, consider also wearing an N95/equivalent mask to prevent “the big one” (Covid) and the damage it causes to pretty much all of the body’s systems.
