Economic growth is still heating the planet. Is there any way out? Rising GDP continues to mean more carbon emissions and wider damage to the planet. Can the two be decoupled?

Yes, the way out is #PostGrowth.

There are enough resources on this planet for everyone to have a decent life, to look after climate and nature, if we share them out fairly

Quiz to spark green thinking in Khomas classrooms An Environmental game for primary schools is set to make waves in the Khomas region, aiming to spark lifelong green habits in young Namibians. The initiative, led by the School Environment Club Namibia (SEC), hopes to help pupils see themselves as active players in tackling climate and environmental challenges. SEC president Inomuinjo Kapimbi says the goal isn’t just to test knowledge, but to build environmental awareness that sticks. “If they understand from a young age why things like recycling or saving water matter, they grow up making better choices,” he says. Kapimbi says with the right support, this quiz can inspire young people to see themselves as part of the solution to climate challenges. Sixteen schools from across the region have been selected to take part, with efforts made to ensure a mix of communities and school backgrounds are included. According to Kapimbi, the quiz will cover topics such as recycling, energy use, biodiversity, water conservation, and climate change, all framed within the Namibian context. “We’ll talk about things they see every day, such as littering in the streets, droughts in rural areas, school gardens, and solar projects. We want children to see that these aren’t just global issues they’re things happening right here, and they can help,” he says. Beyond the quiz, the SEC is hoping to include hands-on activities like recycling crafts, planting demos, and games that teach environmental concepts through play. However, turning this idea into reality depends on support from the public and potential sponsors. Kapimbi says the team needs help with basics like stationery, printing, snacks, transport, and materials for activities. “Even small contributions will make a big difference and we’ll make sure every sponsor is appreciated and publicly acknowledged,” he says. The hope, says Kapimbi, is that this first event will be just the beginning. He says the organisation wants the quiz to become an annual tradition and part of a larger movement to make environmental education a strong, lasting presence in Namibia’s primary schools. “This quiz is more than just a one-day event, it’s an investment in the mindset of our children. If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference in a child’s life and in Namibia’s future, this is your moment.” The post Quiz to spark green thinking in Khomas classrooms appeared first on The Namibian.
