A light coloured, wooden dowel with a small, gold cup hook screwed into the end of the dowel forms the shaft of the drop spindle. The terracotta clay disk forms the whole of the drop spindle. In the whorl, there is a notch carved out to hold the thread or yarn in place as the spindle spins. Both pieces are resting on a sheet of aluminum foil while the clay dries.
