back in 2015 i worked at a bougie butcher shop in town. the chef who was pretty cool, and a bartender who insisted on talking down to the dishwashers were my unknowing models for the two hipster hobos. i painted this after i quit. because they started charging me to drink there. call me old fashioned, but you shouldn't have to pay to drink at a place you work at.

The cover of the 2017 Museum of International Folk Art exhibition book for "No Idle Hands: The Myths and Meaning of Tramp Art." The cover photograph shows a partial view of what is described as a "polychrome S-curve frame. Wood paint, US, late 19th-early 20th century, 24 x 17 x 2 inches." The carving style is called "chip work."

The 2017 exhibition book for the Museum of International Folk Art, "No Idle Hands: The Myths and Meaning of Tramp Art." It includes 2 photos of Adolph Vandertie's exquisitely carved whimsy sticks. I used it to for a character's backstory.
