Tiny Lore here: They were born in velocitron and adopted by a mentor until they were gone. They were separated after they adopted by a group of racers that Will be their new mentors, but they spoiler Sunny more than Sides, leading Sides runaway and wild racing with other naughty kids. Meanwhile Sunny was becoming a well known model of velocitron, just not popular one unfortunately. Suddenly maybe decepticons or maybe some random factions invade velocitron and they kill and slaved many civilians. The twins finally reunited after their group of mentors offlined, but they really shows more negative and jealous to each other. Sides jealous because Sunny get more love and attention while Sunny jealous because Sides had more freedown. Then they realized they never get love and freedom they thought in first place and finally becoming peaceful and supportive (still bickering) each other slowly and surviving the mess until they met the Autobots crew and recruited into the factions. Tiny facts here, Sunny is a mech, not a femme. The thing on his eyes is a make up to make him look pretty as a mech.
