Rund um die Anlage führen asphaltierte Wege in sanften Kurven den Hang hinauf und hinunter. Die Hügelflanken sind vollständig mit kurz geschnittenem Gras bedeckt. Im Hintergrund breitet sich eine bewaldete und teils bebaute Landschaft aus. Ein großes Windrad ragt in der Bildmitte am Horizont auf. Weiter hinten ist eine flache Industrielandschaft mit Gebäuden und Straßen zu erkennen. Der Himmel ist leicht diesig, wodurch die Fernsicht etwas gedämpft wirkt. 1/ Der #RVR Regionalverband Ruhr bewilligt ca. 7 Mio Euro, um das defekte #Horizontobservatorium auf der Halde #Hoheward zwischen Herten und Recklinghausen zu reparieren. Die Bögen wiesen bereits kurz nach der Eröffnung 2008 Risse auf, was zur Sperrung führte.
