House of the beast by Michelle Wong with a 2.5/5 star rating

Summary: Alma Avera blames her father for the untimely death of her mother and swears revenge. With the help of a mysterious god/monster only she can see, Alma plots to steal her father's glory from under his nose during a Pilgrimage to the terror-filled Umbral Plane. The best part of House of the Beast is its fantastic cover art. The rest, unfortunately, is a snooze. The characters are not engaging, the world-building is highly derivative, and the plot is a big muddle. There’s nothing in here you haven’t read or seen before.
