They will say there was intent in my heart and for that they had to pull the trigger. Will you believe them then, even though you know me? When they shoot me in the face and leave my three children shattered, will you believe I was a threat?
Will you say I should have just let them do their job, even though you know me and how my heart breaks for my friends, the ones I’ve told you are not criminals, the moms who just want to buy groceries without fear, the men who want to provide for their families, the kids who were tear-gassed outside a school, will you say I should not have been out there, fighting for them because that was interfering and interfering is reason for bullets? When they shoot me, will you say I should not have reminded my friends that they have rights?
When they shoot me, will you say I should not have recorded the agents’ actions, reciting out loud, “I have the right to record, I am not interfering” just like I’ve been trained just like I’ve trained others, because the first amendment isn’t as important as staying quietly at home? When they tell the doctors “no” and the medics “stay back” while my life runs out of my veins will you say they had a reason? When I am shot will you say I shouldn’t have been out there, because yes, it’s sad, but they are just doing their jobs? Just doing their jobs. Just following orders.
