I really didn’t want to go back to doing this as regularly, but A.N.I.M. really needs money. The past few months for us have been pretty bad, and I’ve been making less than minimum wage with my cut of the profits for a while.

In this episode, Yvette asks Burnadette to rub sunscreen on her naked body. Oh and also there’s some talking to a witness or something like that.

Death Bed: An Impenetrably Medieval Dungeon Game is like almost definitely releasing in alpha next week, and i want everyone to get excited, but i also want everyone to temper their expectations. Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy has been and is in beta - essentially finished except for art, some editing, and formatting - Death Bed is going to be in alpha.

In addition to being in alpha stage, even though i started work on it in earnest in April 2025, it is really only the result of about 3 months of work with a 6+ month gap in between the first month and the second two because I got extremely, extremely sick in May of 2025 and have only in the past month or so started to show significant recovery.

Also, while Eureka started out small and simple and then was built up gradually with new features and mechanics as-needed over the course of several years, Death Bed is starting out already at a relatively large scope, and due to the kind of game it is kinda needs that level of scope before it can even be properly playtested. So what you're going to see is the result of me writing an RPG as fast as humanly possible, without the help of my usual editor (who is stuck on another project) making sure i don't do things like explain certain mechanics multiple times in multiple different chapters or make the order in which information is presented to the reader a total fucking mess. It's going to be a lot of mechanics that i have built up to the bare minimum skeletal functionality for playtesting, including a lot of placeholders. Like, "here are a series of 1D6 tables you can use for X, Y, Z!" and there's only, like, one table.

All of this is of course going to gradually get fleshed out, improved, upgraded, cut, reworked, etc. etc. as more people play the game and give me feedback, and I get to play the game and figure out what parts of it are working and what parts are not, but you'll have to play pretty messy and half-finished game first in order to make that happen.

All of this goes ten-fold for the adventure module that is going to be releasing with Death Bed, because I won't release a game without an adventure module. I feel almost embarrassed to release it like this even though I know that it is both necessary and not actually bad, it just doesn't feel like the level of creativity that I and my team are usually capable of producing, and that's for three reasons. 1. I am really not used to writing adventure modules all by myself and in such an aforementionedly short time frame. 2. It's a Death Bed conversion of another OSR adventure module, Tomb of the Serpent Kings, which you will have to download separately, because I really can't make an original Death Bed module until I have fleshed out and played Death Bed more to know what a Death Bed module should even look like. 3. Because it is a conversion of another module that was made for a very different kind of setting, even the conversion doesn't really represent my vision for what the world and environment of Death Bed should look like. I am stuck between the desire to flesh it out a lot more and make it more original, and the desire to not show my entire hand in like, the placeholder playtesting module. Ultimately the second one has to win because of time constraints. Death Bed really needs to get out the door to a wider audience, and also start making A.N.I.M. some money while I continue to work on it, because we have NOT been making enough money these past couple of months and we REALLY need to some income.

None of this is to say that I'm not proud of what is releasing next week or that it won't be really good with a lot of thought put into what is there, I just don't want anyone to be unpleasantly disappointed that it isn't as polished as Eureka yet.

It's going to be extremely fun and I am extremely excited to see all the Death Bed PCs y'all make and what adventures they have, and to play it myself finally. You can make a PC who is like a bloodhound knight from Elden Ring.

To offset the tempering of expectations, here is a rapid fire list of cool features that Death Bed will have at at least a basic level of functionality on alpha release

Built-in “troupe campaign,” meaning players create several characters at the start and even often play multiples at once.

A health bar mechanic that doubles as ‘stamina.’ Taking damage fills it in from one side, doing actions causes Fatigue and fills it in from the other side. PCs die when these meet in the middle.

Related to the aforementioned mechanic, under the majority of circumstances, PCs are not limited in the number of actions they can take during a turn except by the Fatigue cost. Characters can really push their luck in combat by sprinting great distances or making attack after attack after attack at the cost of temporarily shortening their health bar.

Dungeon crawling that is not combat-centric. You know I love and respect TTRPG combat gameplay, and so the combat is in-depth, but it’s not a game all about killing things. Defense is just *one* role in the party, and it’s pretty likely that not every PC is going to carry a weapon at all. In order to survive dungeon delving, and the trek there and back, a party is going to need diplomacy, equipment maintenance, food preparation, and religious and moral support. Having a “cleric” in the party in Death Bed doesn’t mean a guy who is casting holy spells, he’s giving sermons, administrating mass, and taking confessions. This can be really beneficial i promise and it’s not just a “blessing” for +1 to attack.

An announcement about Death Bed: An Impenetrably Medieval Dungeon Game that was too big for character limit.

TL;DR: It is coming out probably next week but it is going to be in alpha and very unfinished but it will be functionally playable and have a lot of cool features. #ttrpg #indiettrpgs #rpgs

Eureka may be 700 pages long by page count but if you go by word count (so like, the actual time it takes to read it), it's more like 200 pages long. We use big font. #eurekattrpg #ttrpgs #indiettrpgs
