#InternationalBooker: The Shadow Panel Shortlist
findingtimetowrite.wordpress.com/2026/04/16/i...
Book cover for Marie Ndiaye’s The Witch. All tones of red and pin. Two crows. One flying down. One flying up. Both negative of the other.
It took me a minute to appreciate this one. More magical realism than fantasy and heavy commentary on the maternal experience imo Honestly, Wax Child worked better for me. My #InternationalBooker quest continues.
Book 27: On Earth As It Is Beneath
Second re-read for the Booker Shortlist.
Same feelings on re read, so short and could have done with a bit of mystery or metaphorical leanings, rather than being to definitive.
There are better longlist books

Book 26: The Director
First of the Re Reads for the Booker, still one of the greatest pieces of modern literature, this one is for those that loved Zone Of Interest
#BookSky #InternationalBooker #BookerPrize #Booker
Book 25: Small Comfort
11th International Booker, and the first one I actively hated.

Book cover for Olga Raven’s The Wax Child. Old fashioned wooden rocking cradle with smoke or steam lifting out of it. Set on a stark black background. Text in tiny white letters. Title upper left. Author upper right.
Wow. About halfway with this one. If it ends the way I hope, it’s my pick for the #InternationalBooker prize.
Started reading Enard's Deserters for #InternationalBooker and I have yo admire the way he writes a completely different book every time.
Halfway into the #InternationalBooker long list thoughts
1. I see a primary resonating theme of intimate isolation
2. Followed by the fickle shifting nature of power in relationships
3. Surprised that slim novels pack more emotional punch than hefty ones
What do u think? #BookSky #Reading #Books
From one book about women alone to another, from one about witches to another: Persian Women without Men, Danish Wax Child, French The Witch. Do I detect a theme in the #InternationalBooker longlist? (The other theme is war)
Cover of the duke by matteo melchiorre on the kindle
Book 24: The Duke
10th International Booker
If you enjoy classic literature, if the court intrigue of Tyrion Lannister was your favourite part of Game of thrones, if Dostoyevsky philosophy style makes you tingle, this is the International Booker for you.

Book cover: Yang Shuang-Zi’s Taiwan Travelogue featuring a window with a bowl 🥣 n it.
Taiwan Travelogue first impressions: so hungry! A Japanese woman looks for great food across Taiwan. #InternationalBooker #LongList
Book Cover for Francis Spufford's Nonesuch. Central to the image is a woman shown from behind, 40's attire, looking out across London. The air and sky a surreal rainbow sherbert color. She is standing in the palm of an enormous stone statue hand.
While I'd like to storm my way through the entire #InternationalBooker #LongList my #library wait has carved out room for this ARC. It's taking off in the most escapist fun way. Reminds me of a grown up version of China Mieville's Un Lun Dun so far, which is high praise. I loved that one. #Booksky
The cover for We are green and trembling
Book 20: We Are Green And Trembling.
6th read of the International Booker longlist.
As a lover of folklore stories, this was made for me!

"Turning away from spoon-fed translation, #HeartLamp does ask a lot of its reader, but both Banu Mushtaq and translator Deepa Bhasthi, believe we are up to the job."

History made. Banu Mushtaq becomes the first Kannada author—and first short story writer—to win the International Booker Prize for Heart Lamp, a stunning portrait of Muslim women's lives in southern India.

“This is not just my victory, but a chorus of voices often left unheard. A thousand fireflies lighting a single sky, brief, brilliant and utterly collective.”
~ Banu Mushtaq in her acceptance speech.
