Urgent advice I heard today for Americans: “put a trans girl on your couch, immediately”
I don’t *think* I know any t girls facing homelessness, but I am going to think damn hard about it. And maybe you do know someone in a crunch?

I held off sharing this for a while out of respect for the subject matter, but a few weeks back the feed gave a perfect cross-section of my Bluesky follows.

To the editor:
Turned on my computer this morning to see a news story on tariffs. To quote the CBC article,
"Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has penned a scathing letter to the prime minister ahead of his meeting with the U.S. president this week, saying Mark Carney has been a disappointment on the trade file and needs to come back from this trip with some wins for Canada."
I understand that as the leader of the opposition, it is Mr. Poilievre's job to criticize the government. However, blaming Mr. Carney for not settling the tariff dispute means Mr. Poilievre is ignoring the obvious fact that Mr. Trump doesn't want to settle the tariff issue. Mr. Trump wants Canada as the 51st state. Mr. Trump is of the opinion that if he hurts Canada financially, he will make us bow down and join the USA.
Much to Mr. Trump's disappointment, Canadians went "elbows up". We want to remain free and independent. We have a good life in Canada. We are not a perfect country. We are a country that is constantly changing and adapting, and improving.
From the moment Mr. Carney became party leader of the Liberals, he started moving pieces on the chessboard of international trade. Mr. Carney has a five-year plan and a ten-year plan. I appreciate a leader who looks down the road and asks himself, "Where should Canada be in five or ten years?" Mr. Carney realized that waiting for Mr. Trump to no longer be president in the US is not a viable choice.
The chaos in the country south of us might need more than four years to be resolved.
Mr. Carney realized that we need to diversify trade from the USA to other countries with the same values as Canada. This will take a few years to achieve, but it will give Canada the ability to pivot in the future when there is anything that disrupts trade with a trading partner. (climate disasters, crop failures, another pandemic, etc.). By diversifying now, we are creating strength for the future.

Yeah, I first heard about it on one of @iwriteok.bsky.social pods, probably #ItCouldHappenHere . It has always sounded like something so bad only a libertarian or a nazi could love it, thank you for confirming how dumb those folks are, would not want them as neighbors.

One of the biggest problems for the USSR, leading to its eventual collapse in 1991, was the general strike of workers in Poland led by Lech Walesa.
