Originally intended to behave similarly to Dr. Fad's Wacky WallWalker (sticking to and tumbling down walls and windows), Mattel discovered much too late (just prior to filming the tee-vee commercial...) that the worms were actually too heavy and in fact just not sticky enough to really do that very well at all...

Jill Elikann Barad, product manager of marketing in Mattel's novelty department, came up with the last-minute creative spin of just simply marketing them as gross-out toys.
