This year we donated 3 pieces to #JMIH2025 SSAR/HL auction for student travel grants & donated $300 to groups in Atlanta (Tnx #SICB2025). The website needs work, but you can read about it at BlueBeehiveStudio.com, “the Studio, DEI & Impact”. In December we’ll do another donation too! #Botany2025

I'm Ara, I attended my first-ever #JMIH2025 where I presented my M.S. research via poster in Carcharias taurus site fidelity, seasonality, and fish associates in NC. 🦈
My B.S. in Ecology is from App State (2015). I worked as an aquarist and researcher for Spot A Shark USA before my M.S. from CCU.

Phew! It has been a busy week at #JMIH2025. I gave a talk on mako vertebral column mechanics, attended a board meeting, a speed networking event, and repped a committee for the meritorious teaching award. Thanks to everyone for making it an amazing meeting.

Sorry I haven’t been posting today for #JMIH2025. Today was day 1 of 2 full days of the our “Know Better, Do Better” workshop series! Really powerful conversations in a very fraught time, and I’m so grateful for the JMIH societies for stepping up when our funding was yanked.

For anyone who came to see my talk this morning at #JMIH2025 (thank you!), if you are interested in my work in more depth, keep an eye out over the next few months! Eric Gangloff and I have been hard at work on our manuscript, and we hope to submit to Functional Ecology later this month!

Chris Lowe is talking about human interactions near beaches in California - fascinating tidbit was that shark bite stories stay in the news linger during beach season than when a bite happens during fall/winter #AES2025 #JMIH2025

If you are at #JMIH2025 check out Dellen's fascinating work on red-backed salamanders that addresses some fundamental questions in natural history and thermal physiology!!

Dellen just wrapped up a post bacc in the Gangloff lab and will be sorely missed but we're all excited for what comes next 🎉

Great first day at #JMIH2025! So many incredible presenters. Feeling very lucky to be in a position to attend a conference like this. Having a scientific community really is something special.

If you’re here, catch my talk tomorrow morning in Physiology I about eastern red-back thermal bio!

I spied the National Parks Service logo from the #JMIH2025 venue. Turns out there’s a nice little NPS visitor center in the lobby of the science museum across the street. Got my NPS passport stamp, enjoyed the center, and then took a few minutes to gaze at the mighty Mississippi.

Hlavin talking about DNA metabarcoding for diet in tiger sharks, and opportunistically collected tiger shark vomit because that’s a thing that happens 🤢

Gross, but so useful for dietary work!

If you're at #JMIH2025 on Saturday, make sure to stop by the ASIH-sponsored symposium I'm hosting with @fishyhayes.bsky.social -- #ASIHin3D! We have morphological and ecological talks from a 3D perspective on fish and herps from microscopic to global scales!!!

Started #JMIH2025 with an excellent keynote by @amphibs.bsky.social who noted that, when environments are challenging, metapopulation connectivity can provide the support to keep going, whether we’re taking about unisexual salamanders or academic research!
