The Biblioteca Joanina in Portugal is a 300-year-old library that is also home to colonies of bats living between the bookshelves. Every night, the bats emerge and hunt and eat insects that would otherwise damage the rare and priceless books, most of which date to the 16th century. And every morning, workers clean up the guano before opening the library to the public.
