The Music Never Stopped

Everybody loved Bobby!
The band kept us so busy we forgot that time was passing us all by.
Were they ever here at all?
The music will never stop.

Grateful Dead - Estimated Prophet (live '77)
John Perry Barlow was born today in 1947! RIP. Among other things, he was a songwriting partner with Bob Weir. He wrote the lyrics for this track with Bobby.

"By leaving politics out [of the psychedelics movement] we just got co-opted by the worst of the worst. Same with the net, it's like we followed John Barlow; 'governments stay away, we don't need you', and it's like 'oh no, the corporations took over'."

#JOHNPERRYBARLOW' S PRINCIPLES OF ADULT BEHAVIOUR
- Be patient. No matter what.
- Don’t badmouth: Assign responsibility, not blame. Say nothing of another you wouldn’t say to him in the same language and tone of voice.

I want to have a cyberspace that has #prana in it. I want to have a cyberspace where there’s room for the breath and the spirit.

#JohnPerryBarlow found my poetry on his own. Contacted me out of the blue – to let me know: that 'my breed of poet was increasingly rare'; that there was no question in his mind that I was *real*; & that he thought I needed to know that *my* audience was out there, listening...
I had a few conversations with #johnperrybarlow in the 1990s and found him to be smart, weird and fun.
But I'm not sure whether the cyber-libertarianism of that time—which he championed—has proven in hindsight to have more protected human rights and democracy or endangered them.
