The inventor of the Saxophone, Adolphe Sax, was unusually accident-prone. He fell from great heights many times; suffered severe burns; ate a pin; accidentally drank acid; took a nap in a room full of varnished furniture and inhaled toxic fumes; was in a gunpowder explosion; and nearly drowned several times. His neighbors nicknamed him "little Sax the ghost," and his mother worried that he would not survive into adulthood.
