P. #knowlesi #malaria 1st isolated/studied Kolkata India 1930s, after it was noticed in blood film from a long-tailed macaque from Singapore. inoculated P. knowlesi-infected blood into 2long-tailed macaques &1 rhesus macaque: fulminant in rhesus & mild infection in long-tailed macaques

#malaria #Plasmodium #knowlesi found in nature in long-tailed & pig-tailed macaques. Was extremely rare in humans until large cluster 2004 Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. Now seen throughout SE Asia
