I had a great time at #kzoo2024 and in Chicago, and after a day home feeling like a zombie, I'm mostly settled in again. But I really miss the Midwest weather!
I enjoyed the 59th Congress at Kalamazoo #kzoo2024 Kind early medieval hispanists took me in, really good papers throughout the schedule, and seeing old friends in new venues. What a time!
First special exhibit is “Bloodsuckers: Legends to Leeches” — which seems perfect after my #MedievalMedicine expedition at #KZoo2024
Twas wonderful seeing friends and making new ones at #Kzoo2024!
On the shuttle to go downtown to train-train-plane-bus-car home. #Kzoo2024, you've been amazing and I miss you already.
(PS if anyone wants to grab breakfast, lmk!)
Hey #medievalsky, if you're at ICMS, Manchester press is giving away display copies! #kzoo2024

So, #KZoo2024 friends! Keep an eye on your purchases. Someone at a resto this week tried to double-swipe my card. Thankfully my bank caught it, but…!
I am not attending #kzoo2024 in person this year, but if you are, stop at the @archumanities.bsky.social table to check out "Medievalisms and Russia: The Contest for Imaginary Pasts" (and many other wonderful books!) www.arc-humanities.org/978180270064...
This morning's plenary at #KZoo2024 by Carissa M. Harris, "#Medieval Reproductive Justice," was an absolute pleasure to attend. Her connections between today's debate about a post-Roe world and medieval Ancilla and Wench was masterfully argued and constructed.

We are incredibly grateful to all of the amazing panelists and attendees of our yesterday's #Kzoo2024 sponsored sessions. We look forward to seeing you in July at our #IMC2024 round tables. #digitalhumanities #medieval
Such a busy first day of #Kzoo2024 but oh so rewarding! Received some great feedback on my presentations and engaged in rich discussion all around!
Today's last paper is Sarah Guerrero with "#Hospital Holistically: Considering the Roles of Urban Institutions in Rural Spaces" who is looking at the relationship between Siena's #OspedaleDiSantaMariaDellaScala and its patrimony.
#KZoo2024 #HistoryOfMedicine #MedievalMedicine
The second paper is from Mary Anne Gonzales with "A Topography of Care in Late Medieval Douai." Her paper looks to expand on the recent work on #Medieval #Healthscaping by exploring the relationship between #PenitentialMovements & #Hospitals
#KZoo2024 #HistoryOfMedicine #MedievalMedicine
First up is Joana Balsa de Pinho discussing "All Saints Royal #Hospital in #Lisbon: A Hospital in a Pre-Modern City" looking at a hospita'sl function to slow the spread of disease among the sick due to (among many things) its new floorplan.
#KZoo2024 #HistoryOfMedicine #MedievalMedicine
This afternoon at #KZoo2024 we're at #s79 with "#Hospitals Holistically: A Wide View of Hospitals and #Caregiving in the Middle Ages (A #Roundtable)" - with three incredibly interesting short papers!
#HistoryOfMedicine #MedievalMedicine
These papers have been exceptional - exploring many different aspects of #pregnancy, #childbirth, and how those significant moments in a person's life are managed (or, perhaps, not managed) in the #MiddleAges.
#KZoo2024 #MedievalMedicine #HistoryOfMedicine
The final paper today is from Emma Maggie Solberg with "St Margaret of Antioch, Alien, and the #Iconography of #Reproduction" which explores why St Margaret became the #PatronSaint of #pregnancy.
#KZoo2024 #MedievalMedicine #HistoryOfMedicine
Up third is Sara Petrosillo with "Managing the #BirthStory: Autonomy, Storytelling, & Incredulous Births from Constance of Sicily to #COVIDMothers" which looks at the edges of stories to find the autonomy of mothers' birth stories.
#KZoo2024 #MedievalMedicine #HistoryOfMedicine
Up second is Brianna M. Patane with "Reading #BirthGirdles to Better Understand #MedievalWomen" which explores the risk of pregnancies for women in the #MiddleAges & how doctors & medical practitioners sought to protect them.
#KZoo2024 #MedievalMedicine #HistoryOfMedicine
First up is Maeve Callan with ""Forcing her womb": Managing Human #Reproduction in Irish #Hagiography and #Penitentials" which will look at hoe "Reproductive Justice" and "Bodily Autonomy" don't always apply. #KZoo2024
#MedievalMedicine #HistoryOfMedicine
Excited this afternoon for the #MedievalAcademy

For #Kzoo2024 attendees who drink or enjoy bars, I learned from the Waldo’s bartender that they got very little conference traffic last year. It’s a fun, slightly divey bar, and it doesn’t have a lot of students around this time of year. #KzooICMS
(Also, they have $7.75 cocktail pitchers tomorrow.)
Okay #KZoo2024 - who is here?
