After a little (much needed) break, #labdaptations is back, with DR. Kat!
New #labdaptations content is on the horizon :)
And finally, a Comment from Katharine Hubert on #labdaptations for inclusive laboratory research

New #labdaptations alert 🚨 No more closing PCR strip tubes with your thumbs and fingers; let the ergonomic Cap-it tool do the work for you!
Check out the eppendorf tube opener #labdaptations in action!
My thumb hypermobility and lack of hand strength make opening eppendorf tubes difficult (left video). With the use of the eppendorf tube opener, I can open tubes without pain or dislocations (right video).
A dark blue eppendorf tube opener rests on a grey lab bench.

A sky blue tube rack contains a clear eppendorf tube. A teal gloved hand uses a dark blue lever to open the eppendorf tube with minimal force/strength.
#labdaptations alert🚨! This tube opener is great for individuals with limited hand strength/mobility or tremors. I use it to keep my joints from hyperextending/dislocating, which helps to decrease pain.

As I created my own tools that enabled me to do my work, I decided to start sharing them with the scientific community, with the hope that these tools could benefit others. From this, #labdaptations (lab adaptations) was born.
Welcome to the home of #labdaptations ! My name is Kat and I am a Genetics PhD student, navigating science with a disability. Early in my grad school journey, I discovered that accessible lab equipment/tools were lacking, making it difficult for me to perform experiments.
