The striking structure you see directly in front of the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira is known as the Padrão do Salado. It's a Gothic‑style stone canopy or monument, erected to commemorate King Afonso IV's victory in the 1340 Battle of Salado . At its center stands a crucifix with Christ on one side and the Virgin Mary on the other, offered by local merchant Pero Esteves . It’s one of the most photographed landmarks in Guimarães.
