Tried painting tight. I want to be better at it but I don’t really enjoy it. #learningwatercolor

Amateur watercolor of a sunlit market.
Today’s classwork. Many mistakes. But fun. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a truck and a car on a sunny street under a tree with white flowers.
Spring in Hell’s Kitchen. Tried to get that light. Car is tragic but my truck is good. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of some Adirondack chairs on a beach.
Following along with a Tim Wilmot demo. Terrible struggle with values and colors of shadows. But it was very fun to paint and I like my background figures. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a city Street with the tops of the buildings lit up and the bottoms in shadow
Trying to capture how day and night meet in the canyons of the city. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a scene at the Egyptian deities exhibit at the Met.
Amateur watercolor of the Egyptian deities exhibit at the Met. This has a not very well painted mid ground figure that was cropped out in the other one.
At the museum. I had a foreground figure but I cropped her out. Not sure if that was the right call. I really enjoyed painting this! #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a sunset in NYC’s Soho
Wasn’t happy with yesterday’s city sunset. VERY happy with today’s! Nothing like persevering.

Third go at this. I like it. Especially when I think of where I started. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of pedestrians silhouetted on a city street against a strong sun.
I feel like I might finally be starting to find my own style. Could be another false alarm though. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a lit up pizza place in the dark with silhouetted people carrying umbrellas
Going to the theater last night in the rain. Not your usual watercolor subject but I’m pleased with it. This is close to what I saw in my head. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a lioness and her cub.
I did this via a Tom Shepherd tutorial. It took me three attempts not to paint mud, and to get a halfway believable expression on their faces. And of course I could not yet do this on my own. But honestly, I’m amazed I could paint this. #learningwatercolor

Went to a street fair #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a city scene with pedestrians and a bicyclist and cars and buildings with dark storm clouds coming in. It just looks like some kind of alien invasion. Super unnatural looking.
Tried to capture the weird light before a storm, but it just looks weird. 😭 #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of some cars parked by fence with some colorful foliage
Fall color in the IGA parking lot #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of two horses head statues
Horses of St Mark. Going to do these again properly and on a larger scale (this is a small sketchbook.) Could be good. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a musical trio in front of a fountain which is in front of some fall foliage
Some guys in the West Village the other day #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of an intersection on ninth Avenue with some cyclist stop for the light and pedestrians crossing the street. The figures are all silhouetted against white paper.
October light in Hell’s Kitchen. This was so much fun to paint #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of three guys walking down the street with very strong shadows
Some dudes #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of an open window in a New York City tenement with some pigeons flying by
My paintings are starting to look a bit more like how I imagined them in my head. This brings me so much joy! #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a white wall in the sun with trees behind it and greenery casting shadows.
Sat down to do a quick sketch of a momentary image I saw out of the car window today. I can’t believe how well it came out. Probably the best trees I’ve ever done. #learningwatercolor
Amateur watercolor of a harbor scene with two figures and some boats.
Harbor scene. My boats are too pale but I had so much fun with this one. #learningwatercolor
I think I need to stop futzing with it and call it a day before I really screw it up.
